“As a competitive cyclist racing for a Women’s National Road Racing team, nutrition is paramount. “I thought I would drop you a quick line to give you a progress update. Thanks to a combination of your help with diet and a triathlon coach I have finished in the top 10 in 4 out of my 5 triathlons this year, culminating in a win at the weekend down at Seaford in the Olympic distance race. I have finished in the top 3 for my age group in every race as well as set a huge number of PBs for 5K races, 10 mile and 25 mile Bike Time Trials. I’m still working towards my half ironman race in September which will be a much tougher test of endurance but looking forward to the test. Having got down to 79kg over the winter which made an enormous difference to my bike riding – I think all of that is lean muscle, particularly in my thighs and lats but thinking forward to next year, I want to be targeting to sustain around 75Kg to give me some more bike and run speed. “For years I’ve suffered with picking up colds and other illnesses throughout the year and as a competitive cyclist this often lead to long periods of being unable to train. Having been introduced to Lucy-Ann via my coach (Dr Helen Carter, www.pbscience.com) we discussed how we could boost my immune system so that my cycling wouldn’t suffer and I’d be able to work towards my dream of being an elite athlete. Getting lean for a Power Lifting Competition

“I first contacted Lucy-Ann after struggling with my weight after a knee operation to reconstruct the ligaments. I was not exercising as much as I used to due to the injury and subsequent re-hab and even though I thought I was eating healthily and reducing my calories for some reason I couldn’t keep my weight down. After talking to Lucy-Ann I discovered I hadn’t been balancing my carbohydrate and protein intake well enough. I followed her nutrition plan and found the weight dropping off, even though I wasn’t exercising as much as I used to. It was fantastic! I also didn’t feel like I was dieting, but by having small meals 5 times a day I kept my blood sugar levels steady, maintained my energy, and didn’t feel hungry. Three years later, I contacted Lucy-Ann again. This time, due to the original knee injury and wanting to keep the muscles around the joint strong I had entered the world of strength training. My trainer believed I had developed enough strength to enter a power lifting competition. Help! Why am I gaining weight?

Having always struggled with my weight, I had finally had enough! Believe me, I am no couch potato, and even after having run 2 marathons, & 4 half marathons this year, I still managed to put on 6kg’s! Everyone seemed to have an answer. Was I was eating the wrong foods? Someone said I was perhaps eating too much dairy… what has that got to do with weight loss? In any case, I only consumed skimmed milk and fat free Greek yogurt? Was it my alcohol intake – at 1/2 a bottle a week, surely not! I was truly fed up. I’d given up mostly everything and I was surviving by measuring all my food, counting calories and driving my friends mad. I just didn’t understand why my body was gaining weight. My doctor did all she could, but once the blood tests came back normal, she recommended I contact a Nutritionist. SO I did. Lucy-Ann has been fantastic and at last I feel I can communicate with someone who really understands. Her knowledge of nutrition is incredible. Lucy-Ann has given me a detailed analysis of possible solutions (milk intolerance being one) and has pointed me toward a new diet regime and way of eating. This has included trying new foods and having a more varied diet. The best news is, I have lost significant weight! Thank you Lucy-Ann. I’m still on a journey to find out how to make my body strong and maintain energy for my sport – but I feel food is on my side now and not working against me!

It’s said that once you’re in control of your food and finances, then you’re in control of your life.
